Swallow House sits above Lake Como in the historical centre of Oro.
With its three floors and twenty windows, the house is one of the biggest buildings of the hamlet. Its most ancient stones probably date back to the middle ages and documents found in the building speak of the Conca family who lived here from the end of the XVIth century to the XIXth century and who left the house to their farmers when agriculture became less important. When the farmers abandoned the house, swallows started to build their nests on the first and second floors, returning every spring. Four years ago, renovation work began and the swallows went elsewhere to build their nests. However, now the house is fully restored, guests, like the swallows, find their way here every spring.

The restoration of the house has respected the style and building materials of the area. Where possible, stone pavement tiles, lombard terracotta tiles, wooden beams, doors and ancient terracotta roof tiles bordered by sheets of slate have been salvaged as can be seen in the photo.
